UEC Helps Light the Way for Smitty’s Ace Hardware

On May 8, Jackie Caldera, energy efficiency representative, presented a check to Randy Smith and Tammy Smith, the owners of the Smitty’s Ace Hardware store in Hermiston, Ore. In a move towards sustainability, the store has been awarded an energy efficiency incentive of $9,742.00. This incentive comes as a reward for the completion of a commercial lighting project, which saw the replacement of 277 fluorescent light fixtures with new LED lights throughout the store's sales floor. The project, involving a total of 302 light fixtures, marks a significant step forward in the store's commitment to energy conservation and efficiency.

The ambitious project at Smitty's Ace Hardware was essential in reducing energy consumption and enhancing the shopping experience for customers. By switching to LED lights, the store not only improves the quality of lighting but also contributes to substantial energy savings. The new LED fixtures are estimated to result in an annual energy savings of nearly 55,000 kilowatt-hours. This significant reduction underscores the environmental and economic benefits of adopting energy-efficient technologies.

The energy conservation direct funding offered by Bonneville Power Administration enables Umatilla Electric Cooperative to provide valuable incentives to our community. Through this incentive funding opportunity, Smitty’s Ace Hardware is now contributing to a more sustainable future, one LED at a time.
